Frankenstein: The Modern Prometheus Essay
Mary Shelleyââ¬â¢s Frankenstein or Modern Prometheus (1831) is considered as one of the oldest yet significantly popularized literature that symbolizes the tandem of Victor Frankenstein and the Creature. The horrendous creation, Frankenstein ââ¬âthe Modern Prometheus, is used to symbolize Mary Shelleyââ¬â¢s time period wherein men are continuously advancing the level of possible knowledge present in their society. From the scientist Victor Frankenstein to the monster named as the Creature, Shelley creates an innovative argument that illustrates the trends of the progressive industrialization in European countries. Shelleyââ¬â¢s Frankenstein involves with the societal dilemma of menââ¬â¢s overreaching efforts against the limitations of science and Mother Nature by initiating actions to dehumanize the conception of life. II. Brief Summary Shelleyââ¬â¢s Frankenstein had give birth to physically deformed being with the sensations and needs similar to a human being. After abandoning his creation due to its horrendous look, Victor, the creatureââ¬â¢s creator, heard the occurrence of death of his brother William. Frankenstein blamed the monster for his brotherââ¬â¢s death, which further advanced to the death of his fiance ââ¬â Elizabeth Lavenza. Victor tried to avenge the deaths of his beloved; however, he was not able succeed. By the end of the story, Victor felt very ill and eventually died. Walton found the monster after the death of Victor mourning the death of his creator. III. Judgment and Evaluation In Shellyââ¬â¢s version of Frankenstein, there were two essential literary implications that illustrate the purpose of the story: (1) the symbolism of menââ¬â¢s progressive scientific revolution and (1) concluding the outcomes of industrial revolution. IV. Support In the first argument, Shelley illustrates Vincent Frankenstein as the portrayal of menââ¬â¢s over-exceeding desire of power. Shelley utilized the role of Victor to illustrate the capacity of knowledge to violate the concept of life. Furthermore, Shelly even illustrated the possibilities of breaking the limitations of men over the godly and mortal realms. One of Shelleyââ¬â¢s influential inspirations in the novel of Frankenstein was John Miltonââ¬â¢s Paradise Lost (1667) wherein the character of god was referred to role of ââ¬Å"the victorâ⬠, which defined as ââ¬Å"the triumphant one, the winner, the ruler. â⬠Meanwhile, Frankenstein was patterned from Miltonââ¬â¢s lonesome illustration of Victor; hence, he became subdued by the hopes of creating a companion through science. ââ¬Å"Learn from me, if not by my precepts, at least by my example, how dangerous is the acquirement of knowledge, and how much happier that man is who believes his native town to be the world, than he who aspires to become greater than his nature will allow (Shelley, 53). â⬠In the second argument, Frankenstein also symbolized the social trends and the prevailing concepts of the European society during its scientific revolutionary age. Frankenstein illustrated the modern anxieties and fears about the possible outcomes of industrialization and science, and their impacts on ethics and morals of human. In the 18th century, readers considered Shellyââ¬â¢s Frankenstein as an allegorical illustration of ethical nature versus industrialization and scientific revolution.

Comparing Culture - Germany and America essays
Comparing Culture - Germany and America essays When many people think of Germany, the first thing that often comes to mind is its dark history, including the Nazi Regime that ruled during World War II. However, much has changed since then, and Germany today is one of the centerpieces of the European Union and economy. Today, the German economy, which is based heavily upon the American Wall Street, is a flourishing part of Europe. Like the United States, Germany has one of the most vast and broad media industries in the world. German-based print, radio and television deliver high-quality journalism that is widely respected by both the German public and international media experts. In all the various branches, there are approximately 2.6 million people working as coaches, trainers, physiotherapists or officials. At the 2000 summer Olympics in Sydney, Germany was ranked No. 5. The most popular sport in Germany is soccer, called "Fussball. Soccer is called football in most of Europe, while football from America is referred to American Football. Timed - Essay Example Individuals within the hard sciences would point to the fact that the World Wide Web has promoted education and prompted a level of dialogue and discussion that would otherwise be constrained to specific scholarly journals. In terms of political science and governance, the World Wide Web has created a dynamic in which democracy and freedom of expression has come to be something that is expected by many individuals throughout the world. Furthermore, in terms of equality, gender rights, and the prevalence of violence, the Internet has assisted in seeking to reduce stereotypes and promote a more thoughtful level of engagement with respect to the individual rather than the group that they are supposed to be a member of. In short, the Internet has been a transformative force on each and every level; so much so that societies that have engaged with a high level of Internet use are invariably those that are among the most educated and fastest developing. However, all of this leads to a fund amental question; namely what the impact of the web has for the developing world. Firstly, with respect to issues of education, the impact is extremely powerful. Inquiring minds, educational facilities, and institutions within developing countries can provide invaluable resources to those that seek further education within their own sphere. Taking an example of rural schools within India or South Africa as a case in point, the reader can quickly appreciate the fact that these students have a wealth of resources, if they are connected to the web, that they might not otherwise have as a function of their own government education program or the texts/materials that they are required to read and understand as a function of their studies (Simons, 1998). Another relevant impact that the web has for developing countries is contingent upon the way in which it creates a further level of health understanding; both

Statement of Purpose for PhD in Supply Chain Management Essay
Statement of Purpose for PhD in Supply Chain Management - Essay Example These activities include buying product parts from the suppliers, assembling those parts for the manufacturing of the product, and selling the manufactured parts to the customers. For every supply chain process to be efficient, there are some key steps, which the management of a company must take. These steps include plan, develop, create, deliver, and return. Planning is the step which initiates the supply chain process. In this step, a proper strategy is developed by the management in order to make the product or service meet the needs and demands of the customers. Next step is to develop the product. This step includes some important activities such as identifying the reliable and efficient suppliers, planning the method for shipping, product delivery planning, and making payments. Make is the third stage in the supply chain process. This step includes manufacturing, testing, packaging, and scheduling activities. All key issues related to the product manufacturing and packaging are managed at this step. The fourth step in the supply chain process includes delivery of the manufactured product to the targeted customers. At this step, orders are taken from th e customers and the requested products and services are delivered to the customers by the company. Return is the last step included in the supply chain process. In this process, customers deliver the defective products back to the company either for replacement or for refund of money. I am fully aware of all issues related to these steps, and my skills and innovative nature motivate me to do something new in the field of supply chain management. Management Service Operation Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3750 words
Management Service Operation - Case Study Example Monitoring of the services rendered and correcting it is an important feedback management technique that needs to be adopted and implemented. The Service Industry that has been taken for analysis purposes is the tourism industry at Pattaya, Thailand. All the aspects of the business management laid out earlier, pertaining to the geographical advantage, facilities and operational management and Human Resources Management are studied during my visit to the location. This is analysed to see whether the theoretical aspects are met by the practical situations in the hospitality and the tourism industry. The extent to which the factors affect the performance of the industry has been studied and presented below. 2. Finance management is a major requirement for any business and this paper studies the methods adopted by the finance management team at the hospitality centre to take care of the issues that might prop up from time to time. 3. Operational Management was studied under the capacity management principles that were employed to take care of the capacities of the location, quality of service and the overall operational management. 4. ... The details of these are presented below. Location and Facility Management The company we are interested in is a resort at the Beaches of Pattaya, Thailand. The resort spans about 4 acres of land facing the ocean front beach called the Dongtan beach. The location is tropical. The hospitality divides the season into three groups rather than two. They call it low, high and peak. The low season is between May 1 and Oct 31. The High is between Feb 15 and April 30 while the peak season is between Dec 20 and Feb 14. There is a gap of about one and a half months, which is used by the management to do maintenance or any other activity that might be needed to make the resort a better one for the customers to walk in. It is designed as a Thai village Resort with only 45 suites that takes care of every need of the customer. The village resort has three types of cottages or suites. These include forest lane houses, pool cottages with garden showers and suites with Thai showers. All the three of them offer similar basic facilities to the customers. 1. Every suite can be occupied by 2 to 4 people, with 60 to 80 square meters of space for the occupant. 2. Some suites come with full kitchen, refrigerators, ovens, burners, etc., 3. But every one of the rooms inherits the architectural splendours of the past and replicates the Thai heritage themes. The silk, the cotton, the furniture are all hand made from the Thai villages. Many of the original artwork of Thai artisans adorns the rooms (Rabbit Resorts 2007). 4. In some of the cottages, private balconies and gardens are also maintained. Even a garden Thai Shower for a bath in the gardens is possible. 5. The resort also provides a room service like any other would, in addition to the restaurant

Education Algebra Essay Example for Free
Education Algebra Essay Coming into mathematics for elementary educators with my classmates, everyone had some type notion of what this course consists of. For most people math is a very hard and complex subject that requires complicated rules that a person would never use again. A person who has not been exposed to math would say math is just numbers, shapes, and some simple arithmetic. To a serious math student, math encompasses much more than just numbers and geometrical shapes, of course. During math 213 I bought into many misconceptions about math. During Week one I learned about no child left behind act and the proââ¬â¢s and conââ¬â¢s that are associated with this act. We reviewed the order of operations and learned different meanings to some math terminology. The most exciting teaching strategy I learned in week one was called the pinch card. The pinch card allows the teacher to observe the students, while the students pinch different signs when learning the order of operation. It is a piece of paper that consists of the addiction, subtraction, multiplication, division, exponent, and parentheses symbol. Week two we discuss union, intersection, complement, different properties, commutative, associative, and identity. I learned how to use manipulative to teach different teaching strategy while teaching decimals. I found it difficult to understand some questions off the math homework during week two which help me comprehend how students will feel. Math is not hard for me to understand but I realize I have to stay super focus while in math class or I will get lose easily with the different numbers. Math is not a hard subject and many times I made it harder by not using the problem solving steps which are, explore problem, plan, solve, examine, which are very helpful when understood . My philosophy toward teaching math is to look at math from a logical standpoint instead of trying to figure it out; you will see that logically everything will fall into place. I am not a math teacher however, there is one thing I wish all math teachers would focus more on and that is teaching students to view math logically. While it is very important to know how to work, a problem out it is also equally important for students to learn to look at the problem from a logical standpoint. Math in class 213 made perfect sense and when I looked at math from a logical standpoint along with problem solving techniques I discover it is much easier. Common sense goes a long way when dealing with math problems. I also learned that you will need and use math everyday of your life for the rest of your life. Depending on what you do professionally will determine what form of math you use on a regular basis but rest assured everyone on Gods green earth will use some form of math in their everyday life. Taking this math course made me think about becoming a math teacher. Without math, you cannot check your pay stub to make sure your employer is paying you correctly, pulling out the correct amount for deductibles or that you arent paying in to much for insurance or anything else. Without math, you will not be able to budget your income and expenses for the week or the month. Without math, you will have Math is important for our future and it is an important aspect in most jobs. Warehouse workers many times have to take and pass a math test before being hired for job positions. Mechanics use math everyday whether they are pricing parts and adjusting bills or figuring out exact calculations in order to do a job correctly. Construction workers use math to make calculations before beginning and during construction. I have not worked in or heard of a job yet that didnt involve math at some point even if you work at McDonaldââ¬â¢s you have to know math to count the money and give the corrected change. Most often, we use basic math skills without even thinking about it. How sad it would be if we didnt have those basic skills. Math skills are very important when planning for our financial future and during our everyday life. Without math, you wouldnt be able to balance your checkbook or many other everyday tasks that are normally taken for granted.
